Definition:

An adjective is a word that describes a noun or a pronoun. It tells us more about a person, place, animal, or thing by describing its quality, quantity, number, or condition.
Example: She has a beautiful dress. The word beautiful describes the noun dress.

 

Kinds of Adjectives

Adjective of Quality:

An adjective of quality tells us about the nature or quality of a person or thing.
Example: He is an honest boy. The word honest shows quality.

 

Adjective of Quantity:

An adjective of quantity tells us how much of something is meant.
Example: She has some milk. The word some shows quantity.

 

Adjective of Number:

An adjective of number tells us how many persons or things are meant or in what order.
Example: I have three books. The word three shows number.

 

Demonstrative Adjective:

A demonstrative adjective points out a particular person or thing.
Example: This pen is mine. The word this points to the noun pen.

 

Interrogative Adjective:

An interrogative adjective is used with a noun to ask a question.
Example: Which book do you like? The word which asks a question.

 

Possessive Adjective:

A possessive adjective shows ownership or possession.
Example: This is my bag. The word my shows possession.

 

Proper Adjective:

A proper adjective is formed from a proper noun.
Example: She likes Indian food. The word Indian comes from India.
