Lesson 7. Gulliver’s Travels (Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels)

Short Summary

"Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver in Giants" is a satirical story that follows Lemuel Gulliver, a ship surgeon who finds himself in various fantastical lands during his travels. In this particular episode, Gulliver encounters a race of giants known as Brobdingnagians. Initially taken as a curiosity and kept as a pet by the giants, Gulliver faces numerous challenges due to his tiny size in comparison to the colossal beings around him. Despite his attempts to communicate and establish himself, Gulliver is constantly reminded of his insignificance and vulnerability in the land of giants. Through Gulliver's experiences, Swift explores themes of power, perspective, and the absurdity of human behaviour, offering a satirical commentary on society and its flaws.
